Tasha Layton Shares How Reading Scripture Changes Your Life

Tasha Layton is opening up about a habit that has quietly reshaped her faith: reading through the Bible from start to finish. In a recent reflection, the contemporary Christian music artist shared what changes when you slow down and let scripture take root.
"When I was in seminary, I read the Bible through, and I've done it at another time as well," Layton said, adding that doing it over two years felt "so much easier and life-giving." The slower pace, she explained, helped her remember more and truly absorb what she was reading rather than "skimming and rushing through it."
Layton described the practice as digging a well. "You're literally changing the way you think and who you are," she said. "We need a deep well and we need fresh rain as believers... the scriptures literally dig that deep well that we need."
The reflection is part of Layton's YouTube documentary, Meet Me in the Valley, which follows a season of solitude she spent camping in Death Valley. As she told CCM Magazine, she spent three days fasting alone, hoping to quiet the noise and hear from God.
"I think we're all either exiting a valley, in a valley, or heading into a valley. That's just life," Layton said. She described feeling like "some pieces were missing" and wanting to understand how to help others walk through their own low seasons.
That desire became both a film and a song. Layton wrote "Meet Me in the Valley" as, in her words, a prayer for anyone navigating the low places. "You are not forgotten. You are not alone. God meets you right where you are," she told followers, adding that even in the hardest seasons, "He meets us right where we are with comfort, strength, and peace."
For Layton, the throughline is simple: time in scripture and time with God are what carry us through the valleys. Her hope is that fans come away inspired to get quiet, sort through what needs healing, and trust that they are not walking alone.
